High School Service Award

The Clinton School is accepting applications for the 2010-11 Daniel Cayce Award, given annually to an Arkansas high school student who best demonstrates selfless volunteerism on behalf of his or her community.

The school encourages Arkansas high school juniors and seniors who have been involved in outstanding community service projects to apply for the award. The winner will receive a $1,000 scholarship.

“There are so many young people out there who are giving back to their communities without much recognition,” said Clinton School Dean Skip Rutherford. “The Cayce Awards allows us to highlight some of those outstanding high school students and encourage them to continue making a difference.”

The award was established in 2005 and named after inaugural recipient Daniel Cayce of Bearden who worked for 14 years helping needy families in Southeast Arkansas. Last year’s winner was Natalie Williams of Little Rock who created a pet therapy program for hospice patients.

Applicants for the Daniel Cayce Award should submit a completed application form, a summary of their community service activities and an essay of no more than 500 words on one of the provided topics. Follow the link to download an application form: CayceApplicationForm.

Students may also send letters of recommendation, newspaper articles, or any other material that would help the committee make their decision.

The deadline for applications is January 31, 2011. Finalists will be invited to a ceremony for the award at the Clinton School on February 20, 2011.
