Posted by DEAN SKIP RUTHERFORD – Margaret Fong, Hong Kong’s Commissioner to the United States and its highest ranking official in America, spoke at the Clinton School Wednesday. Prior to her speech which was open to the general public, she had lunch with Clinton School representatives including students Tina Tian, Sara Himelfarb and Tim Giattina. Clinton School alumnus Scott Curran, who now works with the Clinton Foundation, also attended. Tina is from China and will be working with the first Clinton Global Initiative-Asia conference which will be held in Hong Kong in May. Sara and Tim will also be doing their international public service project work in China this summer in cooperation with the University of Arkansas’s Walton College of Business.
In her remarks, Commissioner Fong called Hong Kong “the business hub of Asia” and “the gateway to China” while noting the 85 airline carriers which serve the Hong Kong airport make 5,600 flights to 150 destinations every week. She also said a significant portion of the Hong Kong workforce is fluent in both Chinese and English.
In addition to her Clinton School appearance, she met with Arkansas Senators Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor and Arkansas Governor Mike Beebe. To read more about Fong’s trip click here.
