Posted by student JAMES MITCHELL- I’m still trying to decide if the Huck and Chuck rally at the Val Air Ballroom in West Des Moines on Tuesday night was intended to be a stump speech or a rock concert. The ballroom was packed with well over 500 screaming Huckabee supporters as the former governor took to the stage.
Huckabee kept his remarks brief. The former governor used his trademark humor to say that an energy independent America would be able tell Middle Eastern oil producers that “we don’t need your oil any more than we need your sand.”
After the remarks, Huckabee donned his bass guitar and joined The Woogey Boogers in a post speech “rock out” on stage. Huckabee recruited MSNBC reporter Joe Scarborough from the crowd to join him. Scarborough played rhythm guitar while Huckabee laid down the bass lines to “Sweet Home Alabama.”
