Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee was at the Clinton School on Wednesday to discuss his new book, “A Simple Government.” Huckabee’s Clinton School appearance drew wide media attention for comments he made regarding the 2012 presidential race.
After finishing second in the 2008 Republican presidential primary, Huckabee considered running in 2012 before announcing last moth that he’d decided against it. He said Wednesday at the Clinton School that he was not reconsidering his decision but seemed to leave the door open for a potential vice presidential candidacy. Here’s a report from KUAR public radio on Huckabee’s comments:
Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee says he’s “not even thinking about” revising his decision not to run for president next year, but he won’t rule out a vice-presidential candidacy.
Huckabee said last month that he will not seek the GOP presidential nomination in 2012. But speaking with reporters after a speech at the Clinton school of Public Service, Huckabee seemed friendly to the idea of becoming someone’s running-mate.
“Everything is still open; I haven’t closed doors. I found long ago that’s not the smart thing to do,” Huckabee said.
Huckabee performed well with social conservatives in the 2008 race, winning the Iowa Republican caucus. He says he thinks he’d have a good shot at the nomination this time around, but doesn’t envy the other contenders.
A video of Huckabee’s speech will be posted soon at www.clintonschoolspeakers.com.
