Idea Aid

Posted by BEN BEAUMONT – The Clinton School joined Heifer International on Saturday to host “Idea Aid: The World’s First Brainstorm to Tackle Global Poverty,” which brought together people from across the world to try and raise $1 billion annual in the fight against poverty and hunger.

The event Saturday at Heifer Village was one of hundreds across the country facilitated by Mensa Process, a New York think tank. Several Clinton School students and staff attended the event and contributed their ideas to the cause:

– Students Lindsey Johnson and Tezira Jamwa posted ideas about a new poverty reduction search engine, “Giving the Change” debit cards and Grocery Story Giving sites.
– Student David Monteith suggested an idea called, “Nonprofit Bill Pay,” a website that would allow people to pay a portion of the bills of local nonprofits while they pay their own bills each month.
– Student David Watterson suggested creating an “International Day of Service,” modeled after the national days of service on MLK Day and September 11.
– Clinton School Dean Skip Rutherford shared an idea to work with social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter to encourage users to donate $1 to the cause.

All of these ideas and others from events across the country are posted on the Idea Aide Web site. CLICK HERE to read more ideas.
