Clinton School student Jeerawat Na Thalang of Thailand recently participated in a workshop organized by READ Nepal to promote rural empowerment in Nepal, where she is completing her International Public Service Project.
At the two-day workshop READ Nepal, a development organization, gathered 30 community leaders to sound out ideas on guidelines and steps for rural development.
READ Nepal recently received a funding from the Norwegian government to implement the rural and literacy development project. The workshop was aimed at starting a dialogue and involving community members from the start of the project.
The workshop included rural development best practices such as facilitation format and micro-finance credit, which can be applicable in rural Nepal.
After the workshop, Jeerawat is returned to Jhuwani, which is in the northwest of Kathmandu, to conduct a survey to assess needs of communities there.
Jeerawat will also travel to the far west of Nepal to visit libraries in rural areas in the final week of June.
