IPSP Update: Turo Helping AIDS Orphanage in Uganda

Posted by student ALI TURRO – I have been spending this summer completing my IPSP with the Nyaka AIDS Foundation in Uganda. One of Nyaka’s most successful components has been its Grannies Project, which has mobilized more than 6,000 women in two districts. After having lost their own children to HIV/AIDS, many of these women have stepped up raise their grandchildren, the next generation of Ugandans.

With guidance and support from Nyaka’s Grannies Project, women have formed community networks. Together, they are starting income-generating projects, practicing modern agricultural methods and learning about proper sanitation and personal hygiene. The following video highlights these strong women who give us hope for Uganda’s future.” CLICK HERE to watch.
