Posted by BEN BEAUMONT – Actor, author, singer and jack-of-all trades John Lithgow (Third Rock From the Sun) will visit the Clinton School tomorrow and speak at the Statehouse Convention Center at 6:00 p.m. The television and movie star and best selling children’s book author spoke to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette for a Sunday feature story about his coming Clinton School talk:
John Lithgow of television’s 3 rd Rock From the Sun (1996- ’ 01 ) makes his first visit to Little Rock (from the sun ) to speak at 6 p.m. Monday at the Statehouse Convention Center.
Lithgow’s talk on the importance of art and creativity — to children, especially, he says — is sponsored by the University of Arkansas Clinton School of Public Service.
The actor and children’s book author and entertainer plans to tell “what got me into arts advocacy and why.” But he’s keeping mum on the giggles he might slip into the topic.
He hints at the hush-hush performance of “something I’ve written, something for kids,” and he hopes to see lots of them in the audience. “Oh, yeah. I think they make it easier.” Lithgow’s new book is The Poets’ Corner: The One-and-Only Poetry Book for the Whole Family, including some of the favorites he learned in his own childhood. He hopes to entice today’s kids to read and recite the words of Emily Dickinson, Edgar Allan Poe and William Blake.
“It’s my intent to get ’em while they’re young,” he says.
