Mathews Named Outstanding Young Alumnus for UAF Bumpers College

Brandon Mathews (‘15) has been named the Outstanding Young Alumnus by the Bumpers College Alumni Society at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville.

A graduate of the Dale Bumpers College of Agricultural, Food and Life Sciences at UAF, Mathews earned his bachelor’s degree in human development and family sciences in 2013.

Mathews is the founder and owner of BLM strategies, a consulting firm for small businesses and nonprofits. He also works with the College and University Food Bank Alliance (CUFBA), where he provides guidance and consulting with campus food pantries.

“It’s an honor and privilege to receive this recognition, and I hope my story inspires and encourages individuals who are experiencing difficult times to know that the future can be brighter than today,” Mathews told The Graduate, a publication for Alumni and Friends of the Dale Bumpers College. “I know I would not be where I am today without people who understood my worth, and I want to say thank you to all those individuals who helped me along the way and continue to encourage me to this day.”

Mathews’ time at the University of Arkansas Clinton School of Public Service included developing a how-to manual for creating and operating food pantries on college campuses in Arkansas. The manual served as a launching point for multiple food pantries through joint efforts with the Arkansas Foodbank, including the Trojan Food Pantry at UA Little Rock.
