Pryor: It’s Time for a Fireside Chat

Posted by BEN BEAUMONT – Clinton School founding dean and former U.S. Senator David Pryor published an article today on Politico.com calling on President Obama to invoke “fireside chat” mentality of FDR during tonight’s address to Congress. Here’s an exerpt:

First, Mr. President, if I may respectfully suggest, take the offensive. When you go before the joint session of Congress on Wednesday night, invoke the name of the late Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-Mass.) and ask, “Is this the best we can do for our country?” As you stand at that House rostrum before the members of the House and Senate, plead with lawmakers to obliterate the middle aisle that divides our political parties and, too often, our country. “If on only this one issue — health care for America — can’t we come together? Do my colleagues have questions for me? I am here to answer them. Are some of you concerned about a ‘government takeover’? Let’s talk about it. Does my plan take us down the road to ‘socialism,’ as some of you might have questioned? Euthanization of elders — where did that come from?”
