Public Enemy and Public Service

Posted by student CHAD WILLIAMSON – I first heard Public Enemy when I was in middle school and immediately fell in love with their music. Thursday night, along with many of my classmates, I had the opportunity to see Chuck D speak for two hours at Philander-Smith College at a lecture cohosted by the Clinton School. However, it didn’t end there. He agreed to go back to the Clinton School for an interview that Spirit Trickey-Rowan and John Dunkley conducted in the library.

What? I can go along? There I was, sitting around the table with Chuck D as he talked about all sorts of problems and possible solutions. He was very candid about many different issues and kept us on the edge of our chairs. No one could have explained this type of education to me during the admissions process … it’s something you have to experience to understand (or overstand as Chuck put it).

Although I didn’t know what to expect going into tonight, my expectations were definitely exceeded. What’s even better, Nikolai Dipippa (Deputy Director of Public Programs) allowed me to freelance with the video camera and the whole interview is documented. Just another day in the life as a Clinton School student, and Chuck D hugged all of us as he left the school.
