Dean James L. “Skip” Rutherford III, graduate Marquita Little Numan (‘09), and current student Tim Campbell were honored as members of the 2020 edition of Arkansas 250, the annual look from Arkansas Business at the state’s residents who shape the way Arkansans live, learn, and do business.
In addition to serving as Dean of the University of Arkansas Clinton School of Public Service, Rutherford serves on a number of boards around the state. Rutherford, who recently announced that he will retire in June 2021, began his role as dean in April 2006. His 14-year tenure has helped shape the Clinton School’s unique emphasis on project-based learning. Clinton School students have completed more than 1,100 field service projects in 93 countries across the world, including nearly 450 projects completed in Arkansas.
Little Numan is a Leadership Officer with the Winthrop Rockefeller Institute. Additionally, she is the owner of a consulting firm that specializes in nonprofit capacity and shapes equitable community solutions. Before joining the Winthrop Rockefeller Institute, she served as President and CEO of the Urban League of Arkansas, a civil rights organization with a mission to assure that all Arkansans have equal access to opportunities.
Campbell, a second-year student at the Clinton School, led a series of peaceful protests at the State Capitol in Little Rock over the summer that arose from the killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, and others. For his work and leadership, he was announced as a member of Governor Asa Hutchinson’s Task Force to Advance the State of Law Enforcement in Arkansas. The group will review Arkansas’ standards for police training and operations, community policing, and the disciplinary process for officers who violate protocol.
