Student Allie Rouse Invited to Speak at the Association of University Centers on Disabilities Conference

Current student, Allie Rouse, will be presenting at the annual Association of University Centers on Disabilities (AUCD) conference from November 17-20 in Washington, D.C.

Allie’s presentation, entitled “Understanding the Gap between the Outreach Preferences for Persons with Developmental Disabilities and Their Providers,” is based on a project she did for her Practicum project here at the Clinton School.

“Providers and person with developmental disabilities have very different ways of wanting to access information,” Allie said. “It makes truly inclusive living a challenge when those that are supposed to help do not realize they are not reaching out in the most beneficial way.”

Her presentation focuses on the gaps between preferences for communication, and ways to bridge that gap and have truly inclusive relationships between persons with developmental disabilities and their providers.

The 2013 AUCD conference provides a special opportunity for people to share their interests, talents, and perspectives in theses focus areas, as well as a range of disability-related topics with others in the network and our partners. This year’s AUCD conference theme promotes inclusion of all persons with developmental and other disabilities in community life and engages the network in conversation and practices to ensure the work reflects the changing cultural and linguistic landscape in our Centers and States.
