Emily English, the first Clinton School student to pursue the concurrent Master of Public Service (MPS) and Master’s of Public Health (MPH) with the UAMS Boozman College of Public Health, defended her final Capstone and integration project to UAMS and UACS faculty and students last week. Emily developed an information toolkit for the Arkansas Farm to School program.
The Arkansas Farm to School project aims to provide fresh, healthy meals in schools to improve student nutrition and support local and regional farmers. The Farm to School program has four major components: cafeteria procurement, development of school gardens, integrated nutrition curriculum and farm visits.
Emily’s informational toolkit was created to serve as a publicly accessible resource guide for schools and communities working to implement the Farm to School program. The toolkit was compiled after information was gathered from in-depth interviews with 14 existing Arkansas programs. Emily and others also created a Google Group for interested parties to connect.
