Clinton School student Nathanial Owen (’11) has been hired as an Arkansas Delta-based loan officer for ACCION Texas-Louisiana, a nonprofit headquartered in San Antonio that has the largest microloan portfolio in the United States.
Until now, ACCION has only operated in Texas and Louisiana, but it is expanding to the Delta in part through a $5 million grant from Chase Bank.
Owen said he will open the nonprofit’s Helena-West Helena office in October and begin offering loans of $500 to $250,000 to small businesses in the Delta that are not able to access credit through traditional commercial banks.
ACCION has loaned over $112 million to small businesses since its founding in 1994.
Owen is currently completing his final Clinton School Capstone project.
