Posted by HUNTER RILEY, STUDENT – At 10 a.m. this past Saturday, 17 Clinton School students and friends joined ranks with a long list of Arkansas immortals by claiming the award of “Best Team Performance” at the 5th Annual Mud Run – “Little Rock’s Dirtiest 5K” (proceeds of which benefit Little Rock Parks and Recreation).

It all started at 8 a.m. on a cool autumn morning when the group met at Two Rivers Park in west Little Rock with face paint and cider at hand. After hours of costume design and building, the group appeared as the legendary “Running of the Bulls” of Pamplona, Spain, with five individuals dressed as bulls and the other 12 dressed as runners in the traditional white wear and red sashes. The bulls chased and the runners fled, gaining attention and applause throughout the 3.2 miles. Other costume appearances during the race included the “Three Blind Mice,” a four-person cow and cow maid, “The Butcher, The Baker and The Candlestick Maker,” a bridal party, “Three Men in a Tub,” and many more.

As is tradition with the Mud Run, all participants were obligated to dash the final 100 meters through two feet of rich and organic Arkansas mud. It was here where the Clinton School participants shined, reenacting the true “Running of the Bulls” as bulls Josh Heimburg, Lukman Arsalan, Julie West, Hunter Riley and Ryan Lewis gored, tackled and wrestled into the mud the likes of Russ Swearingen, Molly Brunkow, Erica Lawlor, Regina Gauss, Julie Gehrki, Chance Williams, Jay Thompson, Virginia Zuco (friend of Ryan Lewis), Emily English and her friends, the Fowler family. After a grueling crawl through the pit, the mud dried or was washed away with the help of a fire hose and the bulls and runners united to claim their prize.
