Students See First Lady in South Africa

Clinton School students Molly McGowan (’12) and Nicky Hamilton (’12), who are in Cape Town, South Africa, this summer for their International Public Service Projects, got a special treat this week when they volunteered at an event featuring First Lady Michelle Obama and Nobel peace prize Laureate Archbishop Desmond Tutu.

McGowan reports that the she and Hamilton worked all day at the World Cup Stadium, where the event was held, helping coordinate setup and wrangling local press.

“I was proud to be an American in South Africa today – my First Lady with
one of my greatest heroes was an experience I shall not forget,” McGowan reported in an email.
