Posted by DEAN SKIP RUTHERFORD – Super Tuesday Analysis: It was a big night for Republican Senator John McCain who moved much closer to securing the Republican Presidential nomination. Unless there is an unforeseen political avalanche, McCain should be the nominee.
It was also a commendable showing by Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee who won in West Virginia, Georgia, Alabama and Tennessee and came very close in Missouri and Oklahoma. Note that both Governor Huckabee and former Arkansas First Lady Senator Hillary Clinton won Arkansas handily. Senator Clinton won the Arkansas border states of Tennessee and Oklahoma and lost narrowly in Missouri.
Both Senator Clinton and Senator Barack Obama had strong national showings. Look for Obama to run strong in the upcoming Washington, Wisconsin, Maryland and the District of Columbia primaries/caucuses. Virginia and Louisiana should be competitive — setting the stage for March 4 showdowns in Ohio and Texas.
When this election started, most thought the nomination would be finalized after Super Tuesday and few predicted Ohio and Texas would be Democratic battlegrounds. That’s how close the Clinton-Obama election is.
