Posted by BEN BEAUMONT – Former Arkansas Gazette reporter Roy Reed spoke Monday about his new oral history book, “Looking Back at the Arkansas Gazette,” consisting of interviews from over a hundred former Gazette staffers recalling the stories they reported on and the people they worked with from the late forties to the paper’s end in 1991.
Reed discussed the origins of the Gazette, which began in 1819 and eventually became the oldest newspaper west of the Mississippi. He also touched on the papers final years, under Gannett ownership which eventually closed it down. Video of Reed’s lecture will be posted today at www.clintonschoolspeakers.com.
A number of former Gazette staffers and other members of the Arkansas media community attended the lecture, which was co-hosted by the Clinton School and the David and Barbara Pryor Center for Arkansas Oral and Visual History.
