The Clinton Global Initiative

Posted by faculty member JOE BALLARD – Ten Clinton School students will travel to New York City to serve as volunteers at the 4th annual Clinton Global Initiative beginning on Tuesday. For students Dan “Tina” Tian and Lukman Arsalan, the four-day event will mark the culmination of their International Public Service Project. Tina and Lukman spent their summer working with the Clinton Global Initiative staff in Midtown Manhattan.

Aimed at addressing some of the today’s greatest challenges, the Clinton Global Initiative brings together its more than 1,000 members and many of the world’s most distinguished leaders to commit to tangible change in the areas of education, global health, energy & climate change and poverty alleviation. Over its three year history, commitments valued at more than $30 billion have been made at CGI. Featured attendees at this year’s meeting include UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, Senator John McCain, Professor Muhammad Yunis and actress actress Ashley Judd.

Clinton School alum Scott Curran, an employee of the Clinton Foundation, and Katie Morrison, of the Croft Institute for International Studies at ‘Ole Miss, will also be in attendance as event staff.

Stay tuned for updates over the course of the week from student volunteers at the meeting!
