The Dean’s A Duck

Posted by BEN BEAUMONT – Clinton School Dean Skip Rutherford is now in the company of Elvis Presley. In a ceremony Tuesday night, Rutherford was added to the Peabody Hotel’s “Duck Walk of Fame,” an honor given to people who have made a positive impact on the hotel chain’s home cities.

The Peabody Little Rock honored the dean for his work to help plan and build the Clinton Presidential Center, his service as dean of the Clinton School and his efforts to promote and develop downtown Little Rock.

Started at the original Peabody in Memphis, where Pressley was inducted, the “Duck Walk of Fame” now has three Little Rock honorees. Hotel developer Doyle Rogers and City Director Dean Kumpuris were the first two honorees.

In recounting Rutherford’s efforts to get the city prepared for the star-studded grand opening of the Clinton Center in 2004, Peabody General Manager Gregg Herning called Rutherford, “The best ideas guy I’ve ever met.”

In turn, Rutherford lauded the Peabody for helping make Little Rock a destination for meetings and conventions and for serving as the host hotel for the center’s opening.
