Trick or Treat

Posted by BEN BEAUMONT – Little Rock banker and former Treasury official French Hill gave an outstanding presentation today at the Clinton School on the global financial crisis and it’s causes. His lecture was appropriately entitled, “Trick or Treat: The Government Comes to the Rescue.” Hill, CEO of Delta Trust & Banking Corp., presented an easy-to-understand breakdown of the liquidity problems facing financial institutions, as well as the government’s approach to easing the credit crunch through the financial rescue package recently passed by Congress.

Hill said the root cause of the problem had developed over time through the growth of banks and other institutions that have become “too big to fail.” Moving forward, Hill said government policy should encourage the establishment of more small and mid-sized banks so that the economy no longer hinges on a few large institutions. Hill’s lecture will be available for viewing in the coming days on our speaker series Web site, www.clintonschoolspeakers.com.

In addition to his private sector experience with Delta Trust, Hill has served as an advisor to former President George H.W. Bush and former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee. His public service appointments have included serving as a member of the staff of the U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing & Urban Affairs, Special Assistant to President George H.W. Bush for Economic Policy and serving as Deputy Assistant Secretary (Corporate Finance) of the Treasury.
