UACS History 101: Celebrating 5 Years

trailer.JPG

Posted by DEAN SKIP RUTHERFORD – Throughout the summer and continuing through the five-year anniversary of the November 18 dedication of the Clinton School, we will post historical information, photographs and stories about the founding, building and opening of the school, Clinton Center and Clinton Park. We’ve titled the series “UACS History 101.”

In our first posting Lynda Dixon of the Clinton Foundation shares a 2004 photo from the construction site of the Clinton Presidential Center. The mobile home served as the construction project office. Tragically, however, the construction manager, Tom Jones, died of a heart attack prior to the library’s completion. During his work here, Tom planted a garden on the east side of the building — generously sharing homegrown vegetables with staff and visitors. The Clinton Foundation conference room on the second floor of Sturgis Hall is named for Tom and his wife, Betty.

The construction office and the garden were located in the area at Third and World Streets now part of Heifer International and where Heifer has planted wildflowers.

To celebrate this beautiful day and the fifth year of the Clinton School, we remember Tom Jones, his bountiful spirit, and we hope you enjoy the wildflowers. Tom would approve.
