Posted by BEN BEAUMONT – The signing of the Serve America Act in April marked tomorrow, Sept. 11, 2009, as the first National Day of Service and Remembrance, which will be recognized by acts of volunteerism and public service across the country. With the theme, “United We Serve,” this event is meant to remember those lives lost on that fateful day eight years ago and encourage Americans to recommit to service in their communities.
In that respect, a number of Clinton School students will heed this call and join Arkansas First Lady Ginger Beebe’s efforts to promote literacy. Through the “Together We Read” program, Clinton School students will join other Arkansans to read to children in elementary school’s across Little Rock and the state. Kudos to class 5’s Sarah Leer for coordinating these efforts.
