Clinton School Alma Mater: We Will Build the Bridge

As a special surprise at commencement Saturday, new Clinton School graduate David Watterson (’11), an accomplished musician, wrote and performed the Clinton School Alma Mater, “We Will Build the Bridge.”

After his performance, Watterson’s classmates joined him for a gospel rendition of the song. They continued to sing the song as they proceeded out of the auditorium. It was a great scene and a fitting way to conclude the Clinton School careers of our fifth graduating class. Below are the lyrics to “We Will Build the Bridge.”

With great hope in earnest supply
This is our promise to all and ourselves:

We will build the bridge for the poor and the weak
We will build the bridge for those who cannot speak
We will build the bridge between all divides
We will build the bridge so we all can be side by side

And with great knowledge and expectations
This is our calling to serve all mankind:

We will build the bridge for those who live in fear
We will build the bridge for all that we hold dear
We will build the bridge between all divides
We will build the bridge so we all can be side by side
