Dear Clinton: Let’s Increase Access to Healthy Food, Improved Education, and Empowering Activities

Dear Clinton is a collection of photographs and letters explaining what public service bridge our students are building. This special collection was produced in partnership with Dear World, an innovative photography venture for social good.

Dear President Clinton

Many communities in the United States are literally and figuratively undernourished. They lack access to good food for the body, mind, and soul. We must work with these communities to build bridges to increase access to healthy food, improve education, and empower activities. Body, mind, and soul all work together to make healthy people; where one aspect fails, the others will waiver. Nourishing people through food, education, and respect, nourishes communities. Well-fed bodies minds, and souls make happy people. Happy people make happy communities.

To build this bridge, I am working in support of several dozen AmeriCorps members each year in service sites across the country united through the Lasallian volunteers of the De La Salle Christian Brothers. These young people work in education-related ministries as teachers, coaches, counselors, case workers, tutors, mentors, friends, and allies, building strong bonds in communities–feeding their minds, bodies, and souls through their service. I organized training and retreats to ensure that these individuals were prepared for the work at hand. I also work to ensure that these volunteers are themselves being fed as they work to nourish communities and as they grow into bridge-builders in their own right.

Thank you,

Dylan
