Posted by student JAMES MITCHELL- Connecticut Senator and Democratic presidential hopeful Chris Dodd strolled into the Bunk House Café in Logan, Iowa yesterday. The Senator spent about 30 minutes shaking hands and speaking with the 20 people seated in the café as part of his campaign’s last push to make Dodd a viable option in the Iowa Caucuses. The latest national polls show Dodd hovering near 2% support in Iowa even though the Senator has moved his family to Des Moines and enrolled his daughters in public school to show his commitment to the Hawkeye State.
Dodd is throwing everything into the final stretch leading up to the Caucuses by setting a blistering schedule of five speaking events a day. Capitalizing on his endorsement by the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF), Dodd is traversing Iowa in a large bus emblazoned with his image and the seal of the IAFF.
Unfortunately for Dodd, the brightly colored bus didn’t draw enough attention to register his approach with many of the Logan locals. Area local Denny Littrell had come to eat lunch at the Bunk House Café and was completely surprised that Chris Dodd would be joining him there. When asked about the presence of Dodd and other politicians in Iowa Littrell remarked, “Oh yeah, there all over the place up here. They come through and make a lot of promises and then we never see them again.”
For Chris Dodd, the next week will be spent trying to convince locals like Denny Littrell that he’s more than just empty promises.
