Butterfly Community, a non-profit that supports the Latino communities of North Pulaski County, has hired Clinton School graduate Hallie Shoffner as its new Executive Director.
Shoffner is a native of Newport, Ark., and a graduate of Vanderbilt University. She completed her master’s in public service at the Clinton School in May. During the graduate program, she completed projects with two South American organizations serving Peruvian women and worked with the Latino community in her hometown.
“My work with the Latino community in Newport has been very fufilling, and I’m excited for the opportunity to work in Pulaski County. I believe that Arkansas can benefit both socially and economically from a vibrant, engaged and empowered Latino Community,” Shoffner said.
Butterfly runs a dance program for NLR Latinos and a prom dress donation program for teens in the central Arkansas area. Butterfly has also provided English classes, medical support, food pantry and emergency services to the Hispanic areas of North Little Rock.
Shoffner succeeds the Reverand Mary Hoey who helped start the Latino program and served as its executive director for the past 4 years. A fundraising dinner honoring Hoey will be held at the Argenta Community Theater on August 23.
Vincent Insalaco and his late wife, Sally, helped create Butterfly ten years ago, and he serves as the Board President. “With economic conditions and state and federal budgets having to cut services, the need for Butterfly has become more necessary,” he said. “We are thrilled to have Hallie, and with her help, Butterfly plans to expand our programs and outreach.”
