Prior to serving as an animal care coordinator with Chimp Haven, Inc., Clinton School student Christine Sumner (’13), graduated from New York University with a degree in anthropology.
Now working in Africa, Sumner has carried her experiences and training from the concrete jungle to the wilds of western Uganda where she continues to advocate for chimps while completing her International Public Service Project.
Working in conjunction with Heifer International and the Jane Goodall Institute, Sumner is assisting the Uganda Sustainable Livelihoods Project. Her goal is to assess the economic, nutritional and environmental impact of Heifer’s work in the Hoima region.
This project, aimed at conserving forests and water for both people and chimpanzees, hopes to protect wild chimpanzees while also addressing the needs of local Ugandans.
