Three Clinton School students, Emily Fischer, Joanna Klak and Todd Moore today were introduced to the Newport, Ark., community where they will be helping to plan a Delta Visual Arts Center this year. The project is part of the school’s Practicum program which requires the students to complete “in-the-field” public service projects.

They’ll be in Newport, West Memphis, Marvell, Helena-West Helena, and Little Rock among other areas throughout the state completing their Practicum public service projects.

What’s better than watching NFL football on Sunday? Watching the SOBs (Students of Bill) playing kickball of course. The Class 4 students left everything on the field today, defeating the Acme Roadrunners, 19-4. Every player had at least one hit, including three homeruns.

The Clinton School Speaker Series took on a controversial issue yesterday when Jim Gilchrist, president of the anti-illegal immigration Minuteman Project spoke. Calling the practice of hiring illegal immigrants a “21st Century slave trade,” Gilchrist called into question the benefit of illegal immigration to the U.S. economy.

Clinton School student Beatrice Biira will be featured on Channel 11 news tonight in Little Rock. Biira’s life offers a compelling story of overcoming extreme poverty to receive an education. At the age of 9, Beatrice remained uneducated, living in poverty in a small Ugandan village.

University of Arkansas Athletic Director Jeff Long spoke at a reception Thursday hosted by the Little Rock Regional Chamber of Commerce at the Clinton School. Several hundred Little Rock business leaders and Razorback fans attended the event.

This past year, over 100 volunteers donated their time and services to our School. From helping us seat hundreds of guests for each lecture to making our international students feel more at home, our volunteers play a huge role. Earlier this week, the faculty, staff and students hosted a reception in honor of their hard work and presented each volunteer with the Clinton School’s first official lapel pen.

Preparations are underway in the impressive Ford Center for the Performing Arts where it will take place. An impressive large tent has been installed adjacent to the Ford Center and will serve both as the post debate “spin alley” and the media center. Ole Miss is raising $5 million in sponsorships to help offset costs. Most everyone on the campus is proud and excited about hosting this historic event, and I would be too.

Shelters have been opened all over Arkansas to house evacuees who have come North, and two of those shelters are currently operating within Little Rock city limits.
