Microcredit is a popular concept in the area of international development, especially since Muhammad Yunus, who recently visited with Clinton School students, received a Nobel Peace Prize for his work with the Grameen Bank to provide loans to poor people based on trust rather than collateral.

Yunus inspires hope for Africa

Starting the bank in 1976 in Bangladesh, Yunus saw credit as a human right and sought to expand this right by offering small loans to start sustainable businesses. Today, the bank has helped 7.5 million people. Of those who have been a part of the program, 64 percent have been able to lift themselves out of poverty.

The President feels the spending increase is a ploy by the Democrats to take a step toward “their goal of government-run health care for every American.”

Clinton School Students Enjoy Razorback Weekend

Clinton School students spent the weekend on the campus of the University of Arkansas as guests of University President Alan Sugg, Chancellor John White, Provost Bob Smith and others. While there, our students met with various faculty and staff about degree, program and elective course opportunities. In addition, they enjoyed a 66-7 win for the Razorback football team, with tickets courtesy of Dr. Sugg.

Clinton School students, faculty and staff got a sneak preview of the Emancipation Proclamation Friday night at the Clinton Presidential Library. The historic document, along with the Declaration of Independence, the Bill of Rights, the Constitution and many other records, is part of the collection held by the National Archive and Records Administration in Washington D.C.

Governors Town Hall at Clinton School

The Clinton School hosted a town hall meeting Thursday featuring Governors Mike Beebe of Arkansas; Phil Bredesen of Tennessee; Janet Napolitano of Arizona and Kathleen Sebelius of Kansas. With Clinton School students asking the questions, the Governors addressed a wide variety of issues including education, children’s health, biofuels and immigration.
