Bachelder has worked in various immigration services in other states and says she looks forward to serving the immigrant community in Arkansas.

Bridges recounted her story, from her misunderstanding that the mob outside of her elementary school was celebrating Mardi Gras, to her realization that the community didn’t want her in school based on the color of her skin. Her father, grandmother and grandfather lost their jobs because of the controversy. Despite these hardships, the family stood by their decision to send Bridges to the neighborhood’s school, she said.

Clinton School students mailed over 600 cards to U.S. Military troops today in conjunction with the 10-year anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. After Sunday’s letter-writing event drew more than 500 cards, Cabot Junior High School sent an additional 140 cards that were made by students in Patti DiTommaso’s 7th grade science class.

Clinton School students will participate in the September 11 National Day of Service by conducting a letter and card writing campaign to support U.S. Military members who are serving overseas. To participate, stop by the Clinton School from 1-5 p.m. to write a supportive card or letter of appreciation to members of the armed forces. Cards and writing materials will be available on-site. Additionally, the school will be collecting monetary donations to support firefighters in the Central Arkansas area.

Two members of the Class of 2011 (class 5), Rebecca Morrison and Ben Kaufman are getting married in Fairview, Tenn. Rebecca and Ben’s wedding is the first “all Clinton School” wedding since the school opened in 2004. The two met when they enrolled at the Clinton School in 2009, and will reside in Little Rock.
