Clinton School graduate Lisa Porterfield-Thompson (’10) has been named CEO of the Atlanta, Texas, Chamber of Commerce. She previously served as director of public relations at Texarkana College in Texarkana, Texas.

Bridges recounted her story, from her misunderstanding that the mob outside of her elementary school was celebrating Mardi Gras, to her realization that the community didn’t want her in school based on the color of her skin. Her father, grandmother and grandfather lost their jobs because of the controversy. Despite these hardships, the family stood by their decision to send Bridges to the neighborhood’s school, she said.

Clinton School students mailed over 600 cards to U.S. Military troops today in conjunction with the 10-year anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. After Sunday’s letter-writing event drew more than 500 cards, Cabot Junior High School sent an additional 140 cards that were made by students in Patti DiTommaso’s 7th grade science class.
