Reflections on My First Blues and Heritage Festival

In September, Nicholas Hall, Regina Wilkerson and I, the DeltaMade practicum group, went to Helena-West Helena for orientation. The Helena we saw then was much different than the Helena we just left. This weekend there were people from all over the country and globe in Helena, an estimated 80,000 in a town with a population of 15,000. Back in September, I never could have imagined the transformation the town underwent. What looked like a ghost town to us became a bustling, vibrant small city crawling with tourists, blues aficionados, and musicians.

Clinton School for a Cure

Fourteen Clinton School students participated in the Susan G. Komen Race for The Cure today in downtown Little Rock, including Tina Tian, Tezira Jamwa, Ali Turro, Julianne Dunn, Dimas Espinola, Emily Fischer, Sarah Clark, Josh Stokes, Lindsey Barnett, Harvell Howard, Ashley Davis, Beatrice Biira, Adam Penman and myself.  The walk is an annual nation-wide event to benefit breast cancer research.

Expanding World Trade in Arkansas

Clinton School student Jonathan Mwaba, a citizen of South Africa, completed his International Public Service Project this summer with the Arkansas World Trade Center in Rogers, Ark, where he helped plan trade missions to benefit business within the state of Arkansas

Students Raise Awareness for Breast Cancer

At least 14 Clinton School students will help raise awareness for the fight against breast cancer by participating in the Susan B. Komen Race for the Cure this Saturday in Little Rock. Class of 2010 student Lisa Porterfield Thompson is organizing the Clinton School team. All of these students are to be commended for their efforts.

Three Clinton School students will staff a marketplace of products made in the Arkansas Delta region at this weekend’s Arkansas Blues and Heritage Festival in Helena-West Helena. With BBQ sauces, tea-mixes, hand-made pottery and other unique items, the marketplace will truly feature the culture and creativity of East Arkansas.

Kickball Update – Preparing for Doubleheader

As we prepared for a double header on Sunday, the first team to play did not show up. Therefore, the 1:00 p.m. game ended in a forfeit win for the Students of Bill. The second game was a little too close for comfort (we’re not used to close games) but we pulled it out, 6-4. We will play again next Sunday at 6:00 p.m. on Field #6.

Buffalo River Camping

From there, we hiked the Indian Rock House Trail, passing by waterfalls and “natural bathtubs” and ending at a giant, beautiful rock cave that was once home to Native Americans. After finishing our hike, we went swimming in the Buffalo River, below the majestic limestone bluffs at Buffalo Point.

Kickball Update – Week 5

Although we committed one to many errors, we still pulled out a crucial victory Sunday night against the Peppered Pedros. It came down to the last inning as we kicked in the bottom of the 6th. Ashley Davis started us off with a single and Nique Hall followed with a single of his own. Sarah Clark kicked into a fielder’s choice and was out at first while advancing both runners.
