It’s always exciting to see hard work pay off, which is the case with Clinton School student Ryan Lewis who recently landed a job as operations manager for 826 National, a nonprofit tutoring, writing and publishing organization dedicated to helping 6 to 18 year-olds enhance their writing skills.

Congratulations to Clinton School student Chanley Painter who won the Miss Arkansas USA pageant this weekend. Painter will represent the state in the Miss USA competition which will be televised nationally on NBC on April 19 in Las Vegas.

*Effective Wednesday, we’ve received the ok to expand into our new River Market campus within walking distance of Sturgis Hall. We’ll be working on the move throughout the winter break and holidays. The new facility, across the street from the River Market on President Clinton Avenue, will provide additional classroom, meeting and office space. We’re planning to have some of our classes there beginning in January.

Chris Meyers Asch visited the Clinton School last month to discuss his proposal to create a U.S. Public Service Academy (USPA). Modeled on the military academies, USPA would offer four years of tuition-free education in exchange for five years of civilian service following graduation.

Question: How is the Clinton School responding to the economic downturn?
Answer: “Hope for the best but plan for the worst” is an adage we should all follow during these difficult times. State funding, it appears, will be basically flat for the next couple of years. That’s not unexpected, and I just hope Arkansas can avoid the major higher education cuts some states are experiencing.

Visiting Little Rock for the first time, my father came the week of the scholarship luncheon. That specific week was packed with public programs and my dad was more than impressed with the Clinton School experience.
