Governor Mike Beebe and Clinton School Dean Skip Rutherford will pay tribute to Arkansas First Lady Ginger Beebe on Monday evening at a dinner benefitting the Interfaith Hospitality Network of Little Rock. The Interfaith Hospitality Network is composed of 19 church congregations that house homeless families. Mrs. Beebe is being honored as the organization’s 2008 Homeless Advocate of the Year.

The 8-1 Clinton School SOB’s (Students of Bill) enter the kickball playoffs Sunday at 4 p.m. at Interstate Park. The team’s only loss of the season was a forfeit during orientation week. If the SOB’s win Sunday, they will play again Sunday night.

As I was participating with my practicum group on the DeltaMade Marketplace, I was struck at how beautiful and vibrant the small city of Helena-West Helena had become during the Arkansas Blues and Heritage Festival. I am not a trained photographer nor did I even have a camera. I instead found myself snapping shots with my iPhone. To me this was the perfect way to illustrate the festival’s heritage and future, mixing tradition with technology. Here are a few for your enjoyment:

Better known for his bestselling book, “Fast Food Nation,” Schlosser fielded questions from the students hitting topics ranging from the upcoming election to our nation’s prison system, a subject he plans to tackle in a future book.

In September, Nicholas Hall, Regina Wilkerson and I, the DeltaMade practicum group, went to Helena-West Helena for orientation. The Helena we saw then was much different than the Helena we just left. This weekend there were people from all over the country and globe in Helena, an estimated 80,000 in a town with a population of 15,000. Back in September, I never could have imagined the transformation the town underwent. What looked like a ghost town to us became a bustling, vibrant small city crawling with tourists, blues aficionados, and musicians.
