The Clinton campaign office in Spencer, Iowa buzzed with nervous anticipation yesterday. Bill Clinton was en route to speak in Storm Lake, a small town an hour south of Spencer on highway 71, and the Spencer staff was making a mad dash to pack the event with potential caucus-goers from the area.

The wife of Senator Barack Obama made her 17th visit to the Hawkeye state since March on Saturday speaking at Sheldon Middle School in rural northwestern Iowa. Mrs. Obama gave a passionate speech for nearly an hour to a crowd of around sixty people in an attempt to drum up support for her husband as the campaigns move into the final leg of the race to the caucuses.

We will open up our 2008 public program series with an Iowa caucus watch party on Thursday, January 3, beginning at 7:30 p.m. at the school. In addition to those participants already announced previously on the Clinton School Blog, we’ve confirmed Michael Duffy of TIME Magazine and Steffen Schmidt, a professor of political science at Iowa State University, the author of the college textbook “American Government and Politics Today” and who also teaches a course at Iowa State on the presidential caucus.
