Remembering Socks, America’s Most Famous Presidential Cat

Socks, America’s most famous presidential cat, has died. Socks lived in the Clinton White House from 1993-2001 after making the move with the Clinton family from Little Rock. On my visits to the White House, I would frequently see Socks who spent a great deal of time in Betty Currie’s office, next to the Oval Office.

The Junior League of Little Rock has produced a new cookbook, “Big Taste of Little Rock”. In addition to recipes, the book features commentary from several people including President and Secretary of State Clinton, Senator Mark Pryor, Senator and Mrs. Dale Bumpers, Congressman Vic Snyder, Little Rock Nine Member Ernie Green, State Representative Kathy Webb, Little Rock Central High School Principal Nancy Rousseau and Clinton School Dean Skip Rutherford.

The State of Children’s Health in Arkansas

“What are we doing for the kids in Dumas?” asked Dean Skip Rutherford in 2006 at an Arkansas Children’s Hospital board of directors meeting. That question led to the production of a comprehensive report identifying the health needs of Arkansas’ children, including the ones in rural areas like Dumas.
